Rembrandt (Rembrandit Harmenszoon van Rijn) (1606 - 69) was a Dutch painter and etcher. He became a popular portrait painter in Amsterdam, establishing himself with his work "Anatomy Lesson with Dr Tulp". As his art matured, he led the reaction against Italian classicism and developed an interest in realism. His portrait became less flattering and his business declined.
