Winter Photography Tips
Tips, Articles, and Videos for Photographing in Winter
Winter is one of my favorite seasons for photographing. The bright snow and monochromatic tones make for very interesting images. However, many people are disappointed when their winter photos have a blue tinge or are underexposed (the snow is grey). The brightness of the snow can play havoc with your camera's meter, causing it to underexpose. On this page, you will find tips and resources for photographing in winter as well as a visual treat of some of the best winter photography.

My 10 Favorite and Best Selling Photographs
Every photograph is like a mirror reflecting the photographer. As a photographer, i often look back at images I took years ago and suddenly remember what was going on with me at that time. The photographs I have taken that are my favorites are the ones where I feel I came close to the essence of what was really there. On this page you will find ten of my favorite photographs from over the years. The idea for this page came courtesy of fellow Squidoo writer MiMi (GrowWear) and I thank her ve...

Photography & Visual Design
Learning the Building Blocks of Visual Design for Photography
As a photographer, I love to get away for workshops where I can be in the company of other photographers and just shoot! One of my favorites was in New Brunswick, Canada with photographers Freeman Patterson and Andre Gallant, on the subject of photography and visual design. This particular workshop has been packaged into a book, Photographing the World Around You, with all of the elements of the workshop covered as well as assignments to get you going. The workshop and the book were transfo...

Pictures of Tuscany for Your Home or Office
Tuscany is a Magical Place
Imagine walking through rolling hills, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. Birds are singing and the roads are lined with cypress trees. Suddenly you are surprised to come across grazing cows, or a fawn, or a boar family. Sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Well, this is exactly what I remember from my trip to Tuscany. We hiked between quaint, medieval Tuscan towns, like San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and Volterra. Rome and Florence were great, but I'll take the Tuscan countryside anytime....

Landscape Photography
The sounds of birds chirping in the woods, the laughing brook, and the rustling of leaves from a soft April breeze fills my soul with warmth and reduces time to a meaningless set of digits on a cell phone buried deep in my pack. No photograph can capture the true essence of nature, for an image on a sheet of paper cannot compare to the three dimensional splendor of nature's might and beauty; However, what that piece of paper or image on a computer screen can do is allow a person to see a gli...

Backyard Photo Ops
Backyard Photography
The best photo opportunities often lie right in your own backyard. No need for a traveling budget or expensive equipment. As a nature photographer who specializes in close-ups, I'm constantly on the lookout for details. A year ago, I decided to remove lawn from my backyard and transform the space into a flower garden. Little did I realize how my spontaneity would pay off. Now I don't need to fill my gas tank and drive hundreds of miles in search of a good photo. My yard has become a bird sa...

I am not a professional photographer by any means, I am just a woman who enjoys taking pictures...Currently I own two cameras, three if you count my iPhone... My ideas for taking pictures are not for everyone I just find it relaxing to snap pictures of what I think either looks beautiful or has some meaning behind it...Very rarely do I ever delete a picture that I have taken, although I will have to say there is the odd one... Photographing Mushrooms
Mushrooms Are Fascinating Photo Subjects
A friend called me a "camera nut" and I guess you could say that I'm crazy about photography. Several summers ago in New Hampshire, it was particularly rainy which restricted some of our usual activities of kayaking and other sunny day pursuits. Due to the excessive rain, conditions were perfect for mushrooms and they were popping up everywhere. There were all colors and sizes of mushrooms. That's when I discovered I had a passion for mushrooms. Capturing these with my camera became my new ...

Visions of Italy
Remembering Italy in Pictures
After two trips to Italy, it is officially my favorite country. Inspired by a beautiful book called Italian Dreams and a challenge to create an arts page, I decided to present Italian slices of life through images. Using the Orton effect, which gives an impressionistic look, and jagged borders, these visions of Italy will give you a feel for the cities in Italy, the countryside and its people. These images are now available in a book on Blurb, called "Remembering Italy." You will find the ...
