The Help: A Novel (now it's a movie!)
Why I wanted to read The Help:
I love southern literature--and this novel is "oh so Southern". So, when a friend told me about a southern novel she had just finished reading, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, my ears perked up. I discovered that my friend and I had something in common concerning our "upbringing" in Alabama: we both had someone come in "to help" our mom around the house. To our mothers, that person was "the help"; to us that person was almost a member of the family. We felt comfortable around them. We could as...

"The Help" - Novel and Movie
"The Help" A Novel of Eye Opening Discernment and Truth. Honest and Compelling
The Help is a novel of the deep south. During the 1960's, a time of unrest, civil rights, John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King. A time of inequality by either gender or race. A time of genteel living marred by unfair labor. However, The Help is also a novel of gumption. Of courage and heart. It will make you laugh and cry. You will be outraged and soothed. It is a defeat and victorious. It is the story of three women, two black and one white and all the other characters around them. Why and ...

The Help: A 2011 Best Selling Novel
A Review of Kathyrn Stockett's Novel
As a rule, I enjoy reading the novel much more than seeing the movie. Sometimes the characters come out in a movie the way I imagined them, and sometimes they are far off the mark. THE HELP is one of those books which is at times a laugh-out-loud funny, sobering volume focusing on a past we wish we could forget. I decided to read the book first and for now skip the movie. I must say I don't see how a movie can live up to the writing here, which I deem to be well done for a white woman who cap...
