Train Storytime Ideas
Young children love trains. If you get them talking about the subject, chances are you will learn just how much they love trains, want to ride on a train, want to be a conductor, can name all the different cars on a train.... You will probably also learn every single storyline in the Thomas the Tank Engine series. Needless to say, a train storytime will be one your storytime children will talk about for a long time. St. Patrick's Day Storytime Ideas
Everyone's Irish on St. Paddy's Day! Turn your storytime children into lively leprechauns for a special St. Patrick's Day storytime at the library. Though just a word from the wise... a few of these songs will get stuck in your head... for weeks. Photo Credit

Cowboy Storytime Ideas
Though I work in a city library, many of my storytime kids love and dream about cowboys and cowgirls. Rarely do I get through a storytime without a few children showing me their pink or black cowboy or cowgirl boots. (Do they even make other colors?) Children love the cowboy storytime theme because they're transported into their dreams... a temporary world of cowboys, horses and camping under stars.

Winter Storytime Ideas
Winter's a magical time of year for young children. Between building snowmen, snowball fights and cups of hot cocoa, winter truly is the season of fun and play. Engage children in storytime with a winter theme to encourage this love and fascination of the season. Stories like The First Day of Winter playfully encourage narrative skills while others like Snow Sounds help children play with sounds and new vocabulary. Photo Credit

Elephant Storytime Ideas
I love elephants and often ask my storytime children if they saw any elephants on their way to storytime. (After all, Marco saw several on his trek down Mulberry Street!) Plus, I have a slightly overactive imagination. Check out my favorite books, songs and rhymes to share in elephant storytime.

Spider Storytime Ideas
Do you have storytime children mad for Spider-Man? Have their parents read them Charlotte's Web? Have they seen the movie? Why not build a storytime based on their love of arachnids? Throw in some spider facts for added flair and to showcase non-fiction books on the subject. Photo Credit: US Fish and Wildlife Service

Cow Storytime Ideas
Whether your library is in a small, rural area or a big city, cows are one animal all the kids will know. (Plus they make a funny sound.) Many children will know meat comes from cows, but do they know about milk, butter, cheese and ice cream? This works as a great lead in before storytime begins. Photo Credit

Friends Storytime Ideas
Children start making friends and participating in group play at about three years of age... or about the same age many children start attending library storytime or preschool. While meeting and making new friends can be stressful for many children, stories like the ones below can help make the transition easier. The stories may even inspire them to make friends with other kids in storytime. This is my dog, Mireille, and her best friend Tuesday hanging out at the local park. Dogs need friend...
