The life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien: one of the most fabulous names in the entire history of literature, art, imagination and dreams. It is the name of a scholar, a teacher, a linguist and a writer. Tolkien's life was made of many hard and/or sad events, yet he left us a rare and precious legacy. This lens will give you links to sites and books about the man, his work and much more. With one click you could have the whole geography of Middle-earth or a dictionary of Sindarin ready for you to explore! S...

My Favorite Quotes by JRR Tolkien
On Hobbits, Mythology, and True Love
J.R.R. Tolkien has always been one of my top three authors and a personal hero. He was a scholar, a poet, a lover of languages and of nature, and a writer whose magnum opus The Lord of the Rings has been the cornerstone of an entire genre of fiction. Most of all, Tolkien was a devoted husband and father whose tombstone is a testament to the most important story in his life: true love (see below). Tolkien was also an incredible nitpicker, and his writing betrays an old boys' club mentality. F...

Tolkien's Five Dragons: From Middle-Earth to the Moon
Dragons in the fantasy writings of J.R.R. Tolkien
Smaug from The Hobbit is the most famous of J.R.R. Tolkien's dragons, but he is by no means the only one, nor the most terrible. There were many other dragons in Middle-earth before him, a few with famous names. Eye of Glaurung (my illustration) Some of Tolkien's most memorable dragons are not from Middle-earth at all, but appear in fantasies and fairy-tales he composed for his children. For most of these stories, we have Tolkien's own paintings and drawings of his favorite mythical monster.
