Internet Auto & RV Scams 3: How they work
Some ads look suspicious but aren't; others look perfectly innocent but aren't. How do you tell the difference? The best way to get confirmation of a scam is to reply to the ad - something you'd do anyway if you're interested in buying what's advertised. The seller's reply will either get the sale process started or provide confirmation that this is an attempted scam. Here are some characteristics of a typical scam reply.

Internet Auto & RV Scams 2: The ads
If you can recognize a scam just from the ad you can save yourself a lot of hassle and also keep the scammer from getting any information about you (like an email address). Scam ads can vary somewhat, but they do have a few things in common - which I'll describe in the sections below.

Of course you have - there are lots of ads like that, especially on popular classified ad sites. But some of them don't have phone numbers to call, and that's frustrating - you'd like to move on them quickly because you know they won't last long. At least there's an email address. So you fire off an email and then wait anxiously for the reply....
