Imagine a World Without Trees
Imagine a World Without Trees
Can you Imagine Life Without Trees?
I can't! I have to admit I have a thing for trees. I love to photograph them in all seasons and believe we can learn a lot from them. Not only are they beautiful, they are also extremely generous and a vital part of the ecosystem. In our interconnected world, what we do to our trees affects our water, other species and us. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide to keep us safe, and breathe out our life-giving oxygen. As a human species, we could not live without trees. Can you imagine it?

Celebrate Our Oceans Every Year on June 8th!
Although unofficially celebrated for years, the United Nations officially declared in 2009 that World Oceans Day would be held on June 8th each year. Why do we need a day to celebrate our oceans? Because they are in trouble! For years, the sheer vastness of the oceans made us think that they could swallow up whatever we dished out. That is proving not to be the case. On this page, find out about the current state of our oceans and how you can bring awareness every day, not just on World Oce...

Midway Journey
Midway Journey
The Oceans and our Disposable Culture
In September 2009, Chris Jordan, environmental photographer, and five other media artists, first visited the Midway Atoll, a set of islands in the Pacific Ocean. Their mission? To document the fate of some of the most beautiful creatures on earth, particularly albatrosses. Since then, they have made two more trips to the islands. On this page you will see what these artists found and how our disposable culture is tied to the fate of these birds and our oceans. Photo: wili_hybrid on Flickr ...

El Salvador - A Country in Need
El Salvador - A Country in Need
It All Started When a Hurricane Hit El Salvador
I had read a few books about El Salvador before Hurricane Ida hit in November, 2009, so I knew a little of the history of this Central American country. The storm caused landslides and massive flooding, evacuations, and more than 190 deaths. Lack of clean water was a huge problem and people were dying as a result. It was brought to my attention when I received a heartbreaking email from a student who was working on sustainable projects in the area. While the immediate emergency has passed,...
