Homelessness in America
I WAS BLISSFULLY UNAWARE...
What if the cupboards are bare and you don't even have a cupboard or a house any more? Do you hit the soup kitchen? Hope the nearest homeless shelter has a bed? Until a cold November night in 1979, I was blissfully unaware of the homeless population in America. There are many excellent lenses on Squidoo about homelessness. This one is from my own personal perspective.

We are lucky to have roofs above our heads. Our homes are warm from the heat coming from the wood furnaces in our living rooms. At the touch of the button, we can regulate the temperature anytime of the...

Homelessness in Our Society
Homelessness has been a problem throughout our society since the beginning of civilization. In recent decades, it has grown exceedingly worse proportional to the gap between the modern upper class world and lesser living standards. As recently as 2009, USA Today estimated as many as 1.6 million people used 'transitional' or emergency shelters, 30 percent of which are families - a 9% increase since 2007. The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty says as many as 3.5 million people a...
