Steampunk is a term that was coined in the late 1980s to describe a type of science fiction or fantasy writing that fused a Victorian setting and technology with later technological and mechanical developments to create a 19th century that never was.  The genre has now expanded beyond writing to include people who are creating and building modern components to reflect 19th century styles and hardware.
