Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was a German scientist, whose theories completely changed our thinking about the universe and led to the development of atomic energy. In 1902-10 he published his ideas on the Theory of Relativity. He was appointed director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Berlin. With Hitler's rise to power, Einstein, a Jew, was forced to leave Germany. He took up a position at the Institute of Advanced Studies at Princeton University, in the United States.
