I Love Erma Bombeck
When I was little, my mother had several paperback books by Erma Bombeck on the bookshelf in her bedroom. We didn't live in the suburbs, but we lived in a small town, and I found Bombeck's folksy humor oddly alluring -- particularly given the title of her book The Grass Is Always Greener over the Septic Tank. Now that I'm older, I'm not sure Bombeck holds up that well, but -- like Andy Rooney -- she continues to hold a soft spot in my heart. This lens is dedicated to her.
