Winnie the Pooh has actually been around since the first world war. He is based on a real bear named Winnie that belonged to a Candadian soldier named Harry Colebourn (He named the bear Winnipeg). He bought a baby bear from a hunter who had killed its mother. Harry loaned the bear to the London zoo.
