William Spratling is the man credited for leading the artistic silver renaissance in Mexico in the twentieth century. He was an American expatriate professor of architecture and a writer who had moved to Mexico in 1929, and began promoting Mexican artists and designing his own line of silver jewelry. Hector Aguilar Vintage Mexican Silver Jewelry Designer
Like many of the notable Taxco Mexico silver artisans, Hector Aguilar began his career at William Spratling's Taller de las Delicias. In 1939 he was able to open his own silver shop which he named Taller Borda. In 1943, with metal shortages in the United States because of World War II, Aguilar contracted with the Coro Jewelry Company and the arrangement continued until 1950. Taller Borda operated successfully until its closure in 1966.
