Healing Herbs From Your Kitchen: Ginger
Ancient Medicine and Tasty Spice - Ginger is Everywhere
Ginger is perhaps one of the most widely available and widely used medicinal herbs. It is a favorite in Asian dishes, fruit salad dressing, marinades, spice cakes and pies, spicy breads and a wide variety of cookies. Units also frequently found in soft drink flavorings and candy. My favorite medicinal use is ginger tea - so easy to make (just pour boiling water over a slice or two of fresh ginger). My favorite tonic use is to add a slice in the juicer when making apple or carrot juice. Yum!

Herbal Healing With Garlic Is Very Well Documented
Garlic has been cultivated for both food and medicine for thousands of years. It is mentioned in the literature of China, Babylonia, Egypt, the Bible and Talmud, and throughout the ancient Greek and Roman documents, both for it's value as a food, and it's uses as medicine. While a member of the lily family, garlic has long been called the 'stinking rose' and thousands of years of folk medicine proved it's value world wide. Now, of course, modern medicine is catching on - with studies now pro...

Healing from your kitchen spice rack - Cinnamon has many uses
Cinnamon has been a treasured spice since antiquity. The Egyptians imported it as early as 2000 BC. It is mentioned multiple times in the Hebrew Bible. In Europe, it's source was kept secret by the spice traders for centuries. Throughout the middle ages the exact source of cinnamon was a mystery to the Europeans, but it remained a valuable and sought after spice. In fact, spices were a driving force in the European voyages of discovery and colonization of the East. A little information to st...

Healing Herbs From Your Kitchen: Cloves
Cloves are more than just a food spice
Cloves are native to Indonesia, but are now harvested in India, Madagascar, Zanzibar, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as well as Indonesia. Since the spice we call cloves is actually the dried flower bud, it actually contains a calyx, four spreading sepals, and for unopened petals, which form that characteristic small ball in the center. While cloves have been traded and used historically as a food spice and medicinal spice, they are also important in the production of incense in China and Japan, use...
