Best Work Clothes For Women
The handy woman needs comfort. She needs pockets, and she also needs an outfit that says, "I'm working, it's OK to get these clothes dirty, stained, and painted on." Whether it's painting a room, or hammering nails into a fence post, I personally choose overalls for my handywoman work. The main reason I do this is a big thank-you to the plumbers of the world. My modest self does not want to be the "butt" of plumber jokes. With overalls, I never have to worry about that! Plus, once the overall...

How to Make a Platform Bed
How to Make a Platform Bed
Build Yourself a Platform Bed
'What is a platform bed?', you ask? The simplest answer is that a platform bed is a bed that is basically a platform for a mattress. They're typically built of a solid wood base (the 'platform' part), low to the ground, and often with storage underneath. They've been gaining popularity in recent years because they're both cost and space effective, and the design is so simple that it'll suit any existing dcor, and they're easy to get in and around to change the bed sheets without looking like...

The wish-list of the woman who takes care of many repair and maintenance tasks around the house depends on her level of competence. Redoing A Boring Bathroom
Redoing A Boring Bathroom
The Sun, Moon, And The Stars
Okay, here I go again with another lens about another room in my house that we redid. This is turning into a regular series. This one is going to be about how we turned our boring, neutral bathroom into a themed one. It went from white and boring to a Sun, Moon, and Stars Themed room in about a week. If you've read my other home improvement pages, you know that my husband doesn't like to pay people to do things for him. He prefers to do them himself. He's sure he can do it better than anyon...

Hand Tools For The Handy Woman
If you want to get started on your own set of hard-working tools for your DIY jobs, this lens offers my suggestions for filling up your tool box and tool shed with the essentials. At my house, I fix everything that I can. I absolutely hate working with electricity. To me, it's like working with a snake! But I will get in there and do that, too. Other than working with electricity, I really enjoy the challenge of a fix-it chore. My current tools are my hubby's hand-me-downs. I even have a big ...

What is the mushroom factor?
The Little Project That Grew
It is what you come to expect when working on an old house project. This is not about fungus- at least not in that way. It is about DIY projects and how they magically grow, but not in a good way. One of the most common complications of a do it yourself project, especially when remodeling an old house, is the Mushroom Factor. If you own an old house, or if you are considering buying one, even one that you think will only take a few simple projects. ---Welcome to the Mushroom Factor Zone--- ...

DIY Window "Curtain"
DIY Window "Curtain"
"Curtain?"
I came up with the idea for this "curtain" after inheiriting some of my grandmothers jewelery. Although the jewelry has no value (just some awesome beads and necklaces) I wanted to keep all of it. The only problem? I'm a bit of a jewlery hoarder and have run out of room to put all my jewelry. So I came up with a relatively simple solution. I used some of my knitting yarn and strung up a "curtain frame" and hung all my beads on it. It looks great, gave me a ton of extra jewelry storage, and it...

DIY - How to Replace Primer Bulbs
I couldn't count the number of Primer Bulbs that I've had go bad over the years. Since you're reading this, you're probably dealing with a bad one now. Fortunately, replacing a primer bulb is neither expensive nor difficult for the DIYer - read on for details. We're replacing the reddish bulb with the hole in it. The blue items are the choke lever and the chain trigger. The black is the tool's case and handle. The brown flakes just show that I don't clean my tools as often as I should.
