A few years ago, I discovered the famous Dutch violonist and conductor Andre Rieu. What a treat I was in for. I have always enjoyed Strauss's music, but this is such a wonderful way to put it in a modern context! I have become one of his millions of fans and savour every minute I listen to his brilliant play. I certainly hope to hear him and his orchestra live one day. Andre Rieu is a very famous and talented Dutch born musician. He began the Johan Strauss Orchestra in 1987 with 12 members. The orchestra now performs with about 40 or 50 musician. When the orchestra began touring Europe, interest in waltz music was renewed. This renewed interest began in the Netherlands and increased when the orchestra recorded the Second Waltz from Shostakovich's Jazz Suites. At this time Andre Rieu began to be called the "Waltz King".
