Sometimes the songs were created for the movie and other times the film soundtracks are an amalgamation of songs that already existed but were licensed for the soundtrack. On the other hand, original film scores are created specifically for a movie. Often the film score is classical and often...

Eat Pray Love Soundtrack
Original Music and Songs from Eat Pray Love Movie Soundtrack
There's a pretty healthy 14 songs on this movie soundtrack ranging from classical, rock, soul and even some bossa nova. Sly and The Family Stone get things swinging with "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" and Marvin Gaye like wise with "Got To Give It Up (Part 1)." Rosemary's Baby Soundtrack
Rosemarys Baby Soundtrack
The Rosemary's Baby soundtrack was one of the earliest instances of a female voice "la-la-ing" a tune - eerily, yet innocently enough that it becomes contextually very creepy - which spawned many a copy and plenty of spoof references. I'm referring to the film's opening music and track 1 on the soundtrack, composed by Krysztof Komeda, "Main Title ("Lullaby" Theme from Rosemary's Baby). In 1969 Krysztof Komeda was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score.

The Best Lalo Schifrin Film Soundtracks
He practically invented the funky 70's film score
I have always loved the music in the typical 1970's action film, and Mission Impossible from the 60's is one of the most recognizable themes in TV history. Funky and Jazzy. Most of the really good soundtracks sound good on their own apart from the movie itself. These film scores are as earthy as the movies for which it was made, and in my opinion the greatest composer of all was Lalo Schifrin. Bullet, Dirty Harry, Magnum force and Enter the Dragon in particular, His scores for Television were...
