Tips, Talk, And Tales From A 5 Inch Parrotlet
I've been thinking about it. I think we need a Parrotlet lens written by an expert. So here I am! My name is Nemo, and I'm a blue mutation Pacific Parrotlet (that's Forpus coelestis for you studious types). As a human interested in Parrotlets, you are about to embark on a journey of fun, feathers, and facts. And since I'm your guide, grab a piece of spray millet, (that's for me...NOT for you!), sit down, and enjoy the tour!
What did I get myself into?
A couple weeks ago I knew nothing about raising baby chicks. In fact, until recently, the closest I ever got to a chicken was when I watched those cute commercials during the Easter season. But that's all changed now. Today I'm the mother of 7 adorable chicks that have been the center of my world since the second I saw them. They're my first thought when I wake up and my last before I go to sleep. They even sleep in a cage in my bedroom (for now). And yes, I've given each of them a name that...

Bird are amazing creatures! There are so many remarkable things about them from their hollow bones, wing design, beak structures, unique purposes for feet and claws, and miracles with their eyes! Here are resources that my children and I used during a unit study about birds. You will notice several "blips" by my second grader shared as we studied. (Pictures of our lapbooks are still to come!) Join us in our studies, give your opinions, share your knowledge, and add any lenses or webpages you ...
Once upon a midnight dreary,
....while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door- Only this, and nothing more."
I Love Fresh Eggs
I'm raising Barred Rock hens this year to have fresh eggs once they are grown. I've raised chickens before, mostly bantams as pets and a few broilers for meat. Egg prices have increased by around 40% in the last year, raising your own laying hens can save a lot of money. Your eggs will also be fresher and healthier.
The New Zealand Tui - A Native Honeyeater With A Unique Voice
The tui is a well known and wonderful endemic New Zealand bird. It is somewhat larger than a blackbird, and if seated on my shoulder would have its head level with the top of mine. They are rather common around the house, as we live in the Waitakere Ranges and overlooking a small reserve. I have gathered together photos and videos, and oddities and anecdotes, as I can, to try and convey some of the charm of this bird. If you do nothing else here.... listen to one of the recordings of a tui s...
