The Snowy Owl has adapted to this open, perilous environment perfectly. Though the Snowy Owl is globally known, not much is known about their global population. The Snowy Owl is often referred to as the Great White Owl. It is an apt description. It is a magnificent bird and quite a sight to see. It is a nocturnal bird of prey that inhabits the northern regions during mating season, but migrates to warmer regions in the winter.

A Majestic and Beautiful Owl
The Snowy Owl, is a large headed owl, with a very large body. The Snowy Owl, Nyctea scandiaca, is at its largest 24 inches long, and ranges in color. Seen in an almost pure white, to white with brown tints and spots, the Snowy Owl is very impressive looking. The female snowy owl is larger in size, and has more spots or marks than her more white male counterpart. They are quiet owl, very different from the Eastern Screech-Owl or the Great Horned Owl.
