We're lucky to be sharing our southeast Michigan backyard with a large variety of wildlife (of the small sort!), including many tree squirrels. Our backyard is rich in squirrels! We enjoy watching the squirrels' antics around our yard -- chasing each other through the lawn and up through the trees, attempting to raid our bird feeders (sometimes successfully!), flicking their tails and scolding us from a safe perch in a nearby tree, sunning themselves on our deck or finding a cool shady spot ...

A baby squirrel weighs approximately one ounce at birth,  and is about one inch long. They do not have hair or teeth, and are virtually blind for the first six to eight weeks.  The mother will keep the young in the nest and nurse them until they're ready to venture out of the nest, on their own.  This is usually in eight to ten weeks.  You may see a mother squirrel move her babies, she will carry them by mouth, one at a time.
