Wildlife of the Coconino National Forest
Northern Arizona -- A Land of Diversity
If you're ever in my neck of the woods here in Northern Arizona, I encourage you to explore the many wonders of the Coconino National Forest. At 1.8 million acres with an elevation span of 10,000 feet, the Coconino is one of the most diverse National Forests in the country. Its vistas range from cactus-filled canyons to rolling grassland and snow-capped peaks. Why not enjoy at least a day exploring the desert red rocks of Sedona, then drive an hour "uphill" to spend the night in Flagstaff...

Animals In Nature
Animals In Their Natural Habitats
Animals in their natural habitats are a joy to behold. Today more than ever it is important that we attempt to maintain a healthy environment. We do not want to endanger the many species of animals that exist throughout the world. Humans have a huge impact on the environment. Our children and grandchildren will be affected by the decisions we make today. We need to take an active role in supporting organizations that are protecting wildlife in their natural habitats.

Animal Group Names
Have you ever wondered about the names of groups of animals? Some animals live individually, some live in pairs but many animals live in groups. Living in a group can have its advantages. Some animals, such as lions and wolves, hunt in a group making it easier to catch prey that may be difficult to catch if they were on their own. Other animals save energy by living and moving in groups, such as ducks who ride in another duck's slipstream when migrating, or some birds which huddle together in...

Really long lived creatures
longest lived species of all
With human life expectancy on the rise, many people alive today will reach 100 years old yet still humanity has long had a burning ambition to extend life-span even more, so far without any real success. Perhaps we need to study more carefully those creatures living on earth today that make humanity seem positively short-lived

Wildlife In My Backyard
I See Animals
This is a lens about the top 10 animals in my backyard. What? I have seen 10 animals in my backyard? Yes I have, and every time it happens, it never ceases to amaze me. If you live in the country, you see animals all the time, but you don't really expect to see them in the suburbs where I live. Every time an animal shows up in my yard, I use it as an opportunity to teach my son about how precious nature is.

The Captive Wildlife Crisis
Help End Animal Abuse and Neglect
Large carnivores such as lions, lynx, tigers, bobcats, leopards, jaguars, wolves and bears have been brought into civilization from the wild for entertainment purposes or for zoos and have been bred and profited from for centuries. Now there is a vast surplus of these animals, held in captivity that can never be returned to the wild and have no place to go. In the end they are discarded, cast off, abused, exploited, left in tiny cages, kept and traded illegially grossly neglected, and bred fo...

Most of the LEGO Mini Animals are Small Bagged Lego Sets that generally retail for under $15 but there are cool sets that are more expensive and contain more detailed Mini LEGO Animals. The Lego Creator Mini Animals are not like the minifigure scale animals from regular themed LEGO sets, these Animals are actually built using individual Lego Blocks so they are quiet unique in their appearance and...

The Wildlife in Kanga's Garden
My home is also their home
I love seeing wildlife in my garden. I was inspired to make this lens when I saw a family of wood ducks with five new fluffy ducklings walk past my window one morning as I ate breakfast. It has long been my intention to keep a record of the animals that visit us, and I feel that Squidoo is a great place to do it! The wallaby in the photo on the left (and also in my Squidoo profile pic) is a pretty face or whiptail wallaby. It visited early one morning (another breakfast guest!) and I actuall...
