Lyme Regis: Traditional English Sea Side Town on the Dorset Coast
Lyme Regis is on the edge of Dorset as you head towards Devon. It is a traditional English sea-side town with a certain elegance compared with some of the south coast towns. Charming architecture and narrow streets and two beaches surround this old fishing village. Jane Austen wrote Persuasion here and it was also used as the set for The French Lietenant's Woman. Some of the first dinosaur fossils were found in the limestone cliffs surrounding the town.

Dorset is a beautiful county in The West Country (Southwest England) The towns of Dorchester and Lyme Regis offer excellent, but very different places to stay and attractions such as Monkey World provide a good day out. The counties of Somerset and Devon are nearby and can be visited easily in a day and Dorset also makes a good place to stop on the way down to Cornwall in the far southwest of England.
