Oatman-Arizona, the living ghost town. Home to the wild burros.
Oatman, a Little Known but Popular Ghost Town in Arizona
Oatman is a quaint old town nestled in the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona. The only road in and out of town is the "Famous Old Route 66" and it is located about midway between Bullhead City and Topock. Chock full of history, entertainment and excitement, I consider it one of the best of Arizona's many hidden gems. We discovered Oatman about 7 years ago while on vacation in nearby Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Equipped with directions and a bag of carrots - Yes, I said carrots (will e...

I try in a brief way to describe that ROUTE 666 history and interesting facts. The devil's highway got a magical and misterious name. It is good to know why its named like that. Route 66 Through Flagstaff, Arizona
A Tour Of The Highest City On Route 66 (at 7,000 Feet)
Here, let me drive. We'll begin on the west side of town and take Route 66 east through Flagstaff until it departs towards Winona, where it disappears once again under Interstate 40. I'll point out some of the highlights on the way across town and make a few detours to show you what's close to this surviving and thriving section of the historic "Mother Road." Route 66 in La Verne, California
Route 66 in Southern California
F or the traveler of Route 66 you are on the last leg when you descend the San Bernardino mountains into the Inland Empire of Southern California. The drive is easy now, level and in another 35 miles you will start to feel the cooler weather of the Pacific Ocean. One of the first cities on the eastern edge of LA County is La Verne. La Verne is just north of the LA County Fairgrounds and I am sure many traveled Route 66 to get to the Fair in September before there were freeways. Foothill Bou...

At the Steps of Route 66 in Pasadena, California
Working at the Foot of Route 66
Route 66 is an American icon. It is a wandering road of legends, stories and myths. It is a concrete system that can be stood upon; also a road of liberation that can be lost in a few missteps. No other road in the United States has the popularity or recognition in name as this one. The last twelve years of thirty-nine that I worked at the phone company was spent at 177 E. Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, CA. Not once did it occur to me that I was working on the steps of an iconic American road...

get your kicks on route 66
the kicks start here
I've been greatly inspired from my travels upon the old highway...while much of it no longer exists, if you are patient, you can find more than you might otherwise have thought still remained...not long ago, trying to locate sections of the old road was a trying task...old signs and markers had long ago faded, forgotten to history...your only help was a handful of guides published by the dedicated few who would not let the old pink concrete crumble without a fight...their enthusiasm slowly cr...
