Small Town

Happy Camp, California
Happy Camp, California
A morning walk through Happy Camp, CA
Happy Camp, CA is a small unincorporated town in the Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains of Northern California 70 miles west of Yreka and 120 miles east of Eureka and the California coastline. I've been here ten years, and enjoy living in this little town with so many neighbors that try to make Happy Camp a better place. When I first moved here on January 11, 2000, there were a lot of empty buildings. The reason was that the lumber industry died out in the late 1980s and early 1990s due to a ser...

Life in Mulberry, Indiana
For most of my adult life I have lived in mid-sized cities with populations of 500,000 to 1,000,000 people. All of that changed in 2006 however, when I moved to the small town of Mulberry, Indiana. Because I know many people who have never experienced life in a small town, I wanted to put together this page to give them a flavor of what it's like and to introduce them to Mulberry, Indiana.

Whitewater, Kansas
Whitewater, Kansas
Exploring This Butler County Town
Whitewater is slightly off the beaten track. I visited it because I have a relative staying at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. Although I'd been to the nursing home a number of times, this time I took the time to wander around town. If you're in the area, I'd recommend stopping by to see some of the architectural gems in this small Kansas town.

Welcome to Nucla, Colorado
Nucla, Colorado is located in the west end of Montrose county; settled in the late 1800's, Nucla officially incorporated in 1915. The name was derived from the term, 'nuclei'. The founders desired to make their town the nucleus of an utopian community of farmers, ranchers and miners. Nucla became the center of their universe, and not long after, quite a bustling small town.

Luling, Texas
Luling is a small town east of San Antonio and south of Austin. It's famous for its oil fields and watermelons. I've used a Google map to locate some of the areas of interest. The map is called Let's Go to Luling, Texas! Zip Code: 78648 Area Code: 830

✔ Let's Go to Cedar Park!
Cedar Park, Texas
Cedar Park is fast-growing city northwest of Austin. There has been so much recent growth that they have built brand new elementary, middle and high schools. A brand new sports center arrived in 2009.

✔ Let's Go to Round Rock!
Round Rock, Texas
Round Rock is a fast-growing city north of Austin. And yes, it's named after a round rock. See the picture? Although Round Rock has seen amazing growth in the last 20 years, it still maintains its own identity, especially in the downtown section. Still, much of its growth is in the form of chain restaurants and big box retail stores. Many people are happy to shop at the Ikea store. Me, I'm not convinced that it's all it's cracked up to be.

✔ Let's Go to Leander!
Leander, Texas
Leander is north of Austin and Cedar Park, Texas. When I first moved to Austin in 1984, Leander seemed like it was so far away from everything. It has grown significantly in the last ten years, though I'm not sure I like how it's grown. It looks like it could any suburban town in the United States with it's strip shopping centers and chain restaurants on every corner.
