Visit San Juan Island Washington
A Summer Getaway to San Juan Island, Washington
San Juan Island is one of my favorite destinations in Washington State. It is definitely off the beaten path and not the easiest place to get to, but well worth the effort. Beautiful green trees contrasting with the deep blue sea, rugged rocky shorelines, wildlife viewing, a lighthouse, a fascinating whale museum, unique shops and a slice of island life awaits you. It is a great place to view nature, including bald eagles, numerous species of shore and sea birds, harbor seals, orca whales an...

Edmonds Washington
A Visit to Edmonds, Washington
This year, for a variety of reasons, I was among those who didn't travel for a vacation. Instead I took a "staycation" and explored the attractions in my own area. I live near Edmonds, WA, a quaint, historic little city nestled along the shores of Puget Sound about 20 miles north of Seattle. I spent some time doing some research and was amazed to find how many activities are available practically in my own back yard. I learned that Edmonds was founded in 1890 and is the oldest city in Snohom...

Grandfather Cuts Loose the Ponies
More than 5 million vehicles a year travel on Interstate 90 between Vantage, WA and George WA and pass by the stunning view of what appears to be a herd of wild horses running on top of a plateau on the east side of the highway. They are actually metal sculptures that are commonly referred to as the Wild Horse Monument. The official name of the art work is "Grandfather Cuts Loose the Ponies", and it was created by artist David Govedare in 1989. The sculpture and its name honors the heritage o...

Westport, WA ~ A Beautiful Place
I've visited Westport a couple of times. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Seattle. It is a small fishing town that sits where Grays Harbor opens up into the Pacific Ocean. When I visit, I always love to go up in the tall viewing tower (which is where this picture was taken from), walk on the paths along the ocean, and watch the waves crash on the jetties. There is something about visiting the ocean that is always very satisfying. On a really hot day, it is always cooler along the water. It i...

Washington State Offers Something For Everyone
Washington State Offers Something For Nearly Everyone
Choosing a vacation destination is an important decision because there are a number of destinations that may lack certain types of attractions that appeal to some people. Washington State is affected by this though as the state offers one of the widest varieties of locations, activities, and attractions that can be found in the entire United States. People are often confronted with locations that claim to have something for everyone, but Washington State is truly a location that does.
