As an ex classics major and recent mythology major, it always gives me a kick when I recognize a name from mythology or some dead language. More often than not, especially in more recent games, place names seem to be invented, sometimes with a real-world geographic suffix like -bad or -burg or -cia tacked onto the end. However, there's still a lot of meaningful names in Final Fantasy geography, especially in the early games.
